REVIEW | L'Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder

What Is It?
L'Oreal's newest foundation in the market that claims the foundation turns into a powder once on contact with skin leaving you with a natural finish. Really? I've never tried anything like that before! Also with a name like that I had to try it! I've tried cream to powder but never liquid to powder. I know some higher end companies have come out with this kind of product but L'Oreal is the first to do so in the drugstore department.

PROS
  • Feels light
  • Does indeed turn into powder
  • Looks natural
  • SPF 18

CONS
  • Packaging
  • Poor coverage
  • Makes dry spots noticeable
  • No pump
  • Runny formula

First Impression.
I have had this foundation since April. My first reaction wasn't a very good one. I thought ok...this doesn't cover anything and it's making my skin's texture look worse than it is. It suggests not to apply with a sponge, which is what I use for liquid foundations to get the best finish so I applied with my fingers instead. It looked natural, didn't feel like anything was on my skin, and disappeared like nothing was on my skin as well under an hour. What the heck? I was a little disappointed. Then I thought well let me try it some other ways. I tried it with primer and that only made it last a bit longer. I tried it with a brush. It looked the same but you have to buff it in very fast and work one area at a time because it dries to a powder once it comes in contact with skin. I tried it with a sponge despite their recommendations and it wasn't horrible but really no different than the other methods. It just sucks up the product too much.

To get the most out of this foundation on my oily acne prone skin I have to use primer, heavy duty full coverage concealer, a brush, and set with a powder. It's better to apply one area at a time because if you dot your face, by the time you come to that spot, it will be harder to blend it away. You have to keep buffing it in til it dries also otherwise your foundation will dry with brush strokes. It dries to a semi-matte finish. Not dewy, not a dusty powdery but a nice natural finish that looks like your skin.

Overall Thoughts.
The price isn't bad but I would not repurchase this due to the way it bahaved with my skin. I would not reccomend this to anyone who has skin flaws like acne or rough patches. It was not very long lasting and the oil just seeped through within 3-4 hours. It is so light in coverage that you can see the concealer spots underneath it and makes the little flakes around my nose very noticeable. The SPF isn't high of a number that truly protects you from the sun.  I like the glass bottle as it looks very retro but it is not practical. My bottle looks filthy with fingersprints and such all over the lid no matter how often I wipe it clean. If it had a pump it would make more sense because you can create a huge mess if you're not careful. It is so runny that I have to pour it ever so carefully on the back of my hand to make sure it doesn't spill all over my bathroom counter. I've had it drip to the floor and can't imagine the horror if it dripped on carpet! update: It fell on the carpet and the spot is still there ugh!... I wanted the foundation to work becaue of how light and smooth it felt and the fact that it is a powder finish. it seemed so magical, haha. It just did not work for me. I ended up with a pimple on my cheek too (noOoOo!) and I have to blame it on this foundation because I have not added anything else that is new to my routine. I heard a lot of great things about it but eh. I'll pass.

I will post the link to the video once it is up. I have no idea when it will be atm, sorry :(

This was the BEST it has looked on me. I used Becca Matt

What are your thoughts on this foundation? Have you tried it?

  1. I actually think this looks really great on you. It looks like the perfect beach/summer look and covers just enough that your skin looks even but incredibly natural at the same time. But then, maybe you just have amazing skin (jealous!).
I've just picked this up for myself and plan to try it out in the next couple of days. I hope to write a post about it but if not I'll be sure to et you know what I think/how I apply it!

    1. It disappears on my skin quickly and it shows all the imperfections too much. I don't like it at all. If there are flakes it will emphasize them even more! When I get acne I'll get little flakes around it while it is healing and it shows all of it. It looks uneven because all my oil seeps through lol just not a good foundation for me.
