REVIEW | Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Polishes

Sally Hansen is no stranger to me. I have a few of their polishes and I love many of the treatments and top coats! I've been meaning to try some of Sally Hansen's Complete Salon Manicure nail polish line. I've tried basically all her other lines so why not? When Influenster asked if I would like to review it, of course I said yes! They sent me 3 beautiful colors!

Jaded #540
Bluish mint

Red My Lips #470
True red

 Pat On The Black #510
Deep plum, almost black

I couldn't help myself and bought Guilty Party #130
It's a warm silver with the tiniest bit of rose shimmer in it.
Looks like a very light gold depending on lighting. It's so beautiful!

Their slogan being "7 benefits of a salon manicure in one bottle" is a very confident statement at best. Sounds a bit skeptical to me. I am used to getting 2 manicures (gel polish, polish, or gel nail set) a month up until a few months ago because I wanted to spruce up my nail polish collection. My professional manicures would last anywhere from 1.5-2 weeks and be in decent condition without any chips, just some scratches here and there. I am a relapsing nail biter at times so I would always ask for a good gel top coat no matter what kind of manicure I got. My manicures would include all the basic steps (base coat, color, top coat, cuticle care, etc.) and take nearly an hour to do. With all these steps put into one I imagine it would take me all but 10 minutes to do a Salley Hansen manicure. These are the 7 "benefits" to this polish.

  • Base Coat
  • Strengthener
  • Growth Treatment
  • Color
  • Top Coat
  • Chip-Resistant
  • Gel Shine

Does it live up to it's claims?

PROS

  • Beautiful trendy colors available
  • Available in drugstores
  • Brush
  • Shine
  • Opacity
  • Includes strengthener
  • Includes base coat

CONS

  • Not fast drying
  • Price

OVERALL THOUGHTS
If you get a color you like, there really isn't too much to complain about in this polish line. You get what you see. Out of the three I was given, Jaded was the only one that looked sheer on the first application and Red My Lips left a reddish stain on my nails. All the polishes cover completely in 2 normal or 3 thin coats. I like quite a few of the shades they have to offer. I had my eye on Pat On The Black and was about to buy it just the other day so I was thrilled to see this one in the package!

At home I've been doing manicures with bare false nails lately. The need for a base coat, strengthener, growth treatment, and a chip-resistant application for my hands is irrelevant at the moment but I really like the idea that one polish includes all that. I used Jaded on my toes and it looks great! I think it will look great in the spring and summer time. I can definitely say that it makes my nails feel stronger after application and the shine wasn't bad at all. I love the huge brush it comes with. It reminds me of OPI's brushes, which I love! For me, skinny brushes make polishes appear streaky. I think there is no need to put "color" on the list of 7 benefits...it's a nail polish so, no shit. I do prefer a separate top coat that makes it even more shiny but it gives a nice shine just by itself.

I have two concerns about this Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure nail polish line. One being these polishes are priced a bit high for a drugstore brand. Drugstore polishes shouldn't be just a few cents less than an salon quality brand (OPI, Essie, etc.). For that price often I just hold out and go ahead and buy brands that more professionals use since it costs barely a dollar more. Second, this polish takes a good while to dry. I normally let my polish dry for at least 30 minutes even for fast drying. For this polish even after 30 minutes it felt a little tacky to the touch and I managed to leave a fingerprint on it if I pressed hard enough. That can be solved by using a fast drying top coat but I shouldn't have to according to the 7 benefits.

I really like this polish collection for their colors and smooth application with the big ol' brush. So far it has lasted me 10 days with minor chips. I don't think it provides all the 7 benefits that was claimed but I will still be purchasing more in the future because overall, it's a great polish.

Have any of you tried this line? What are your favorite colors or what do you want to try? Mermaid's Tale is next on my list! If you have tried any please leave a link so I can check out your swatches!
